Anointing of the Sick

The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick brings Christ's strength, peace, and healing to those who are suffering from serious illness, advanced age, or preparing for major surgery. Through this sacrament, the Church prays for God's grace, offering comfort, hope, and spiritual strength.

Formerly known as Extreme Unction or the Last Rites, the Anointing of the Sick is no longer reserved only for those near death. It may be received by Catholics who are seriously ill, facing major surgery, experiencing the frailty of old age, or whose condition has significantly worsened.

While God may grant physical healing, the primary grace of this sacrament is spiritual: a deeper union with Christ, peace in suffering, courage, and the strength to endure illness with faith.
