Ministries & Parish Life

Readers

An open Lectionary on the ambo

Ministers of the Word who proclaim the Scriptures at Mass and other services. Must be mandated by the Diocese to serve.

Readers proclaim the First Reading, the Responsorial Psalm when it is not sung, and the Second Reading, and they often read the Prayers of the Faithful. Through their voices, the assembly hears God speaking to his people, so this ministry is a true service to the whole parish.

Good proclamation begins with preparation. Readers are encouraged to pray with their reading during the week, read it aloud several times, and look up any unfamiliar names or places before Mass. If you would like to become a Reader, please contact our coordinator.
